My favourite island

Or 'Why I'll be heading back to Sardinia when Covid restrictions are lifted'

Sardinia is magical, and to understand why it’s my favourite Mediterranean island, read my article for Telegraph Travel https://www.telegraph.co.uk/travel/lists/20-favourite-mediterranean-islands-likely-can-visit-one-year/.

First of all, there’s something for everyone – family-friendly resorts, romantic boutique boltholes, mysterious archeological sites, and plenty for the adventurer too, from great cycling to rock-climbing in the interior, and snorkelling or surfing in pristine waters. For a list of the island’s best beaches, read here https://www.janfuscoe.com/articles/sardinias-most-incredible-beaches/

Blue Zone

Secondly, the island is one of the world’s “blue” zones, famed for its high number of people who live to be 100. Covid-wise, it currently has 43 coronavirus cases per 100,000 residents (the national average is more than 250).  It’s all about the sea, for me.

My favourite place of all is the award-winning beach in the ancient village of Posada. With a coastline of almost 2,000 kilometres, there are hundreds of unspoilt coves and bays that are perfect for social distancing.

Restaurants

Thirdly, there’s the food. Mostly it’s simple fare – fresh, local and tasty – like the island speciality of su porcheddu (roasted suckling pig). Personally, I’ll be heading to Su Gologone in Oliena for the best traditional cuisine. Pronto!
