Cremona was home to three of the most important violin-making families: Stradivari, Guarneri and Amati. The recently opened Museo del Violino tells their story, and offers an insight into five centuries of violin-making.

Tataouine, in southern Tunisia, is famous for the trogolodyte buildings of the native Berber* population. It's so other-worldly, that director George Lucas used it as a backdrop for one of his Star Wars films. The buildings are actually ancient grain stores, or ksour, and you can read more in my Time Out article here.

Nightlife on the Amalfi Coast could obviously never compare with that of London or Paris, nor does it try; the towns are small and, come nightfall, evenings out will mostly be confined to eating and drinking excellent food and wine. But if your passion is classical music… Ravello’s Concert Society holds classical concerts from March…

Ravello’s Palazzo Avino is one of the finest hotels I’ve ever stayed at, and the service some of the best I’ve experienced; let’s just say that it involved a full camera disc, with at least three more days of photo-shooting, and it was all sorted out beautifully by the concierge. Then there’s the Michelin-starred restaurant,…
