Blog

I don’t always have a feature to write, so I blog (see below).

I’ve been a beekeeper for six years, and in 2012, I entered a competition and won an award for ‘Best Honey in London’. Incidentally, in 2018 my honey was commended for its ‘Lovely flavour’ at the National Honey Show.

On an evening with Gennaro Contaldo* I learnt how to make the perfect pumpkin risotto. And there’s a recipe for pesto too.

In 2010, I went to Japan. I visited Tsukiji market, rode the bullet train, and danced all night at Tokyo’s The Room.

*Incidentally, Gennaro Contaldo was born in Minori in Italy, which gets a mention in my Campania feature for New Zealand’s Cuisine.

Parma

Parma

‘Tastebuds should be tingling as soon as you arrive in Parma; who hasn’t heard of Parmesan Reggiano or Parma ham? But there’s so much more to the city where ‘il porco’ is king. It’s the birthplace of music conductor Arturo Toscanini and artist Girolamo ‘Parmigianino’ Mazzola, hosts the world-famous Verdi Festival, and the city’s fascinating […]

Amalfi Coast

Nightlife on the Amalfi Coast could obviously never compare with that of London or Paris, nor does it try; the towns are small and, come nightfall, evenings out will mostly be confined to eating and drinking excellent food and wine. The big news, however, is the reopening of the famous Africana nightclub after an extensive […]

Positano

Review of Positano’s ‘Max’ restaurant First-class cooking in the heart of Positano Slap bang in the centre of Positano central, just off bustling piazza dei Mulini, Max is a little oasis of quiet serving up fine cooking at prices that, while not cheap, compare favourably for the area. Food and drink: The menu covers […]

Naples

I decided to skip the private jet, and take the overnight train to Naples. I was about to spend the next seven days cycling and sailing. It’s cheap, eco-friendly and a lot of fun… If you can’t explore one of the most spectacular coastlines in the world in a classic sports car, the next best […]

Ravello

Ravello

Ravello’s Palazzo Avino is one of the finest hotels I’ve ever stayed at, and the service some of the best I’ve experienced; let’s just say that it involved a full camera disc, with at least three more days of photo-shooting, and was sorted out beautifully. Then there’s the Michelin-starred restaurant, Rossellini’s, with its fabulous wine […]
